file is: takehome-mid.txt 3.5 Elliott 376 / 394 Take home portion of the midterm exam, 50 points (5%). Three-page, or less, critical assessment, plus advisory grade on your time log. Place your GROUP NAME on the first page of the exam. No cover pages please. This is due ON THE SCHDULED DATE, at the BEGINNING of class, or earlier. LATE EXAMS accepted only with significant penalty. These exams will be kept as confidential as possible, but absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. Printed exams only please. -> Write your GROUP NAME, and YOUR NAME at the top of each page. -> NO cover page, please. -> Sorry, no hand-written exams accepted for credit. -> Printed only, no electronic submissions, no faxes. -> Remember that this is an EXAM, not an assignment. -> Exams may be turned in early to my mailbox (make sure they are clearly marked for my mailbox, and time-stamped, 4th floor CS&T), but otherwise are collected at the BEGINNING of the class session. No late exams, thus skipping class to work on the midterm will not help. Turn in your three-page-or-less critical assessment of your project, as follows, by answering the four question areas, then attach your time log: Mark each portion of your exam by number of the question. 1. Main essay answer: What did your group do well? What could your group have done better? How would you characterize the personalities in your group? [include yourself] (Use names please!) Be insightful, and truthful. I am grading your real ability to critically, logically, and dispassionately, assess strengths and weaknesses within the group. 2. Secondary essay answer. Talk about principles. If you wanted to save someone trouble in the future, and keep them from "reinventing the wheel" what would you want to say about your group project that would be useful next time around? What sort of person would you hire as a project manager? What qualities would you value most highly? I am more concerned that your NEXT project be successful, and this will depend on the insight that you are now developing about how project groups work. Be insightful and thoughtful. Write your answer as though you wanted me to hire you as a project manager to solve problems. 3. Secondary essay answer. In general, comment on TIME. Review the hours logged for each member at the group web site. Comment on the hours spent on the project so far. Any surprises? Any places where your group could have saved time? Any predictions about the group's use of time in the future this quarter? Given that people work at different paces, is everyone reporting their time accurately? Etc. Be sure YOUR NAME and your GROUP NAME are on your assessment. Please do not ask to turn this in late, since it would not be fair. Feel free to comment on any aspect of your project, either technical, or relative to personnel. This will be as confidential as I can make it. 4. In addition to your three-page, or less, critical assessment, turn in your time log. This last will not affect your grade, but gives me a chance to give you feedback on this important document.
