Software and Systems Project Management
Journal, Due: March 15, 2017
Assignment: Journal (aka Research Log or blog)
- Description –
Students will keep a journal. This will cover collateral
reading assigned, questions asked in class, and your thoughts
on course material. The journal entries will comment on the
readings and the lessons learned.
- Motivation – keep track of what you have learned;
think and comment on ideas and lessons learned; refer to it in
the future
- Summary – Maintain a journal of interesting articles
and papers you have encountered. Also comment on class
lectures, especially discuss the end of the lecture exercises.
- Details – Journal
- Consider the journal as a "scholarly" blog that
discusses your reading (special assignments and otherwise)
and/or discusses areas of the lecture(s). Write a
paragraph, or multiple paragraphs, on something
interesting from the book(s), from the web, or from
elsewhere. If it is from a book, put a reference to author
and page; add the book to list of references at the end,
if the book is not the standard text for the course. For
web references, place a hot link back to the original
source. You may also add in observations about your
work(job), current or previous. Also, comment and/or
answer the exercises at the end of each lecture. You might
also want to discuss other parts of the lecture as well.
- Keep your blog file up to date by working on
it as you read. A little discipline here,
searching out book material on the web, will go a long
way. It is also a good study habit to develop, leading
toward a more profound, proactive level of
scholarship.
- Place your name and
class
info
at
the
top
of
your
blog
file;
you
may include your email address but this is not required.
- While I may suggest topics (or questions) in class (see
Exercises at the end of each lecture) do not restrict yourself
to just those items. If you do not have other entries, you will not receive 100%.
- [You may want to add a glossary section. Include
acronyms as well.]
- Format:
- This is to be a simple, plain text, or created as simple
HTML list entries. No frames, no graphics except as
absolutely necessary for content.
- The journal is in reverse date order – latest entry at the
top. You should have at a minimum one entry per lecture, but
may have several, especially if you do any reading from the
reading list.
- Make sure your name is
on the document
- Make sure you state the topic/question as well
as the answer.
- Comments: This assignment is to help you in studying
project management. The journal is a scholarly technique to
digest information and remember it; It allows you to
reflect on what you are learning.
- Hints and help
