Dave Flippo's FLIPPOMUSIC
private and business events
UNIQUE AND EXOTIC:
Southport Records performing artists FLIPPOMUSIC offers you the chance to create a
fresh, contemporary and diverse musical ambiance at your next function or social event.
Our program of "globaljazz" presents a kaleidoscopic musical experience drawing
on musical styles from around the world--original and traditional music from South America
to Africa, the Orient to the Middle East. Using a blend of authentic percussion and wind
instruments and synthesized sounds, FLIPPOMUSIC has been praised by the Chicago Tribune
for its"...unique and exotic sound..." Our program is perfect for an event with
a particular cultural theme, an ethnically diverse audience or just for something
different and refreshing.
PERFORMANCES:
Recent social functions include:
FLIPPOMUSIC has given concert performances at the Taste of Chicago, University of Chicago Jazz Festival, l995 Independent Label Festival, DePaul Multicultural Festival, Skokie Festival of Cultures, l994 and 1995 Southport Jazz Festival and the Libertyville "Out to Lunch" Concerts. The quintet regularly performs at such Chicago jazz venues as the Hot House, Park West, Green Dolphin Street, Bop Shop and the Underground Wonderbar.
THE MUSIC:
FLIPPOMUSIC has been called "as exotic as it is original...as sophisticated as it
is accessible " by the Chicago Tribune. David Flippo draws upon the skills, knowledge
and experience he gained while obtaining a Doctorate in Composition at the University of
Michigan, studying world music and working as a jazz performer, composer and teacher. The
band members are all veterans from the Chicago music scene. The music blends the familiar
language of jazz with the various melodic styles, instrumental sounds and rhythmic grooves
from countries the world over.
VERSATILITY:
Because the ensemble's musicians are versatile professionals, FLIPPOMUSIC can mix more
traditional jazz and blues into its program. The band can also create a program which
focuses on a particular style of music to support an event's theme (Latin, Caribbean,
Cajun, Asian...) Although the ensemble usually performs as a quintet, the number of
performers may be adjusted to accommodate the room or audience as needed.
