Double exposure
Since 1977 Playboy magazine, a popular publication among males of every flavor, has featured an annual photography project, portraying women from different conference schools. This year, they turned their attention to Conference USA schools, including DePaul. In past years, this section has featured women from the Atlantic Coast, Southeast, Pac-10, Ivy League and Big XII conferences. The October issue of Playboy is the magazine's annual college issue, also featuring Playboy's Pigskin preview, the College Fiction Contest winner, Back to Campus Fashion, and more to kick off the fall season. After interviews from several veteran Playboy photographers during the months of April and May, forty-seven students from thirteen universities were selected to appear in the issue. Amy Warner, a senior communication major, and Nicole Reeves (neither used her real name), a sophomore marketing major, of DePaul were among them. Other universities represented included Marquette University, the University of South Florida, and the University of Memphis. According to Reeves it was encouragement from friends and co-workers that eventually convinced her to audition. “I sort of laughed about it at first," said Reeves, “but then more people started encouraging me to do it." Her work with Playboy has already led to other possible modeling jobs and offers, such as commercial print work for local modeling agencies, though Reeves has no plans for professional modeling.
Reactions from people have tended to be pretty positive, she said, despite the occasional whisper from strangers in public. “My friends are cool with it, but my parents have mixed emotions." On Friday, Sept. 8, Amy and Nicole made an appearance at Tower Records, 2301 N. Clark St., to meet with fans and sign autographs. Dozens of people lined up to meet with the two Playboy models from DePaul. |
