Welcome to my site! Last summer, I made the transition to being jointly affiliated with DePaul University Libraries and Instructional Technology Development as an Instructional Librarian and Technology Consultant. Previously, from Dec. 2003 to July 2005, I worked as Assistant Coordinator of Library Instruction at DePaul's Lincoln Park campus. In addition to in-person instruction and reference work, I am very involved with the development and production of online instructional content in the form of workshops which we target to particular student populations; and I serve as the subject bibliographer for psychology and computer science. Also, I'm currently working to complete a Master of Science in Instructional Technology Systems at DePaul's School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems. Previous to DePaul, I was part of the library faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Daley Library Reference department from 2000 - 2003, first as part of the Academic Resident Librarian program and later as a tenure-track librarian. During my time at UIC, I worked on two separate grants totalling approx. $17000, and was project director for the second grant, both of which focused on developing and distributing four versions of a customizable library Web portal (adapted from the MyLibrary open source software) appropriate for academic, public, school and special libraries. I conducted two usability studies of the UIC Library Web site, the first of which produced a published article in CRL in July 2002. I earned my MLS degree from Indiana University in 2000 and currently serve as a member of the Alumni Board for the School of Library and Information Science. In my spare time, I am fond of travel -- in July 2003 I spent three weeks rambling around northwestern France, Paris, Belgium and the Netherlands. In December 2004, I travelled to Kenya as the sole librarian on a DePaul East Africa Vincentian Initiative faculty/staff service trip. Sadly no photographic evidence remains as I lost my digital camera on my return flight! :( Together with colleagues and friends, I am working to establish a non-profit group to support the education of the children of the St Vincent De Paul Nursery School in Kibera, a large slum area just outside Nairobi Kenya. Closer to home, I enjoy cooking, (or perhaps I should just say eating since I'm equally happy to oblige in my own kitchen or someone else's) exploring the great city of Chicago, and (quite stereotypically for a librarian I suppose) I do a lot of reading; and I've been known to try my hand at bookbinding and papermaking from time to time. Cheers! cg .... cluttering the Web, one page at a time. |
