Association of Teachers of Technical Writing (ATTW)
The ATTW website provides tutors with resources for teaching and researching across various disciplines. It also provides links to conferences and workshops for teachers of writing. Tutors can also gain access to ATTW publications by becoming a member.
Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC)
The CCCC is the world's largest professional organization for researching and teaching composition. On this website you will find information about the CCCC's annual convention (one of the most important in the discipline), as well as information about the National Day on Writing (scheduled this year for October 20, 2009), relevant national news and articles of interest, and access to their prominent academic journal.
Council of Writing Program Administrators (WPA)
The WPA is a consortium of university faculty specializing in composition studies and writing center programs, whose mission includes the exploration of the theories and practices that characterize the discipline. Tutors interested in writing center scholarship may look further into the WPA's journal, WPA: Writing Program Administration, its workshop and conference offerings, and its research grant and award program.
International Writing Centers Association (IWCA)
The IWCA facilitates writing center program enrichment, sponsoring networks that support the professional development of program directors, tutors, and other staff. The IWCA publishes a peer-reviewed journal and a monthly forum, which provide tutors with materials related to writing center practice and an opportunity to publish their own scholarship as well. The Association also offers grants for research in writing center-related fields as part of its goal to address the concerns faced by writing centers all over the world.
National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
The NCTE is devoted to improving the quality of English teachers nationwide. They publish a periodical that focuses on issues such as how to improve student literacy and encourage reluctant learners. Their website features lesson plan ideas, advice for teaching reading and writing at any level, and literacy initiatives. Their resources are relevant for teachers of elementary school through college. The NCTE also offers professional development opportunities, such as the annual NCTE seminar. Two-Year College English Association (TYCA)
The TYCA is a constituency of the National Council of Teachers of English and connects professors teaching English at two-year colleges across the country. The organization researches and supports initiatives to further develop English instruction at two-year colleges and offers teaching approaches professors utilize at these institutions. The TYCA also encourages professional development through conferences, committees, and publications focusing on the unique challenges of teaching English at a two-year college.
