The Writing Center's application and hiring seasons are Fall and Spring Quarter, when hiring takes place for the following winter and fall terms. The Writing Center requires all prospective tutors to be DePaul students nominated by a faculty member to apply for a position in the program and the Writing Center Theory and Pedagogy class (WRD 395/482).

Acceptance is NOT automatic: Applicants must submit an application and statement and interview with the Writing Center's directorship and staff. Most years, the applicants must also schedule a conference with a tutor in the Center to receive feedback on an assignment of their choice. The conference also gives tutor candidates an opportunity to talk about the Writing Center community with a current tutor.
