Psychology Lesson Plan (12th grade)

Length of Time: 1 Week

 

                        Standards (The National Standards for the Teaching of High School Psychology):

                   Content Standard 1:   Define personality           

                        Performance Standard 1.1:    Define personality.

                            *Personality is defined as "an individual's characteristic pattern of thinking, feeling, and acting."

 

                        Content Standard 2:    Theories of personality

                        Performance Standard 2.1    Identify the psychodynamic perspective.

                            *Discuss Sigmund Freud's view of the mind.  Review the concepts of a conscious, preconscious, and

                            unconscious mind.

                            *Present the Freudian concepts of free association and a slip of the tongue.

                            *Explore how the id, ego, and superego interact according to psychoanalytic theory.

                            *Explain how defense mechanisms are helpful.

                            *Discuss Freud's psychosexual stages of development:
