DePaul offers a progressive professional development program at no cost to participants. Continuing Professional Development Units provided (CPDUs) and flash drives.

Level One Program Discover the Library of Congress, requires a minimum time commitment of 12 hours (in three four-hour blocks or four three-hour blocks) of professional development. The foundation program is required for participants new to the program.

The Level One Program will engage participants in the following activities:

Orientation to the Library of Congress Web site, including purpose, structure, and navigation to improve understanding and interaction with digital collections of primary sources.

Introduction to primary sources, including definition, purpose, value, and instructional uses in curricula and the course of learning.

Creation of instructionally sound primary source-based inquiry learning experiences that integrate primary sources from the Library of Congress.

Level Two Program for participants who have completed DePaul’s AAM Basic Training or the TPS Level One Program. The Level Two Program requires a time commitment of 12 hours plus home study and will engage participants in the following activities:

Creation of subject-specific, Illinois standards-based lesson plan that integrates primary sources from the Library of Congress

Implementation of the lesson plan (video taped and observed by TPS staff)

Collection of student work

Reflection of lesson plan and revision to lesson plan based on reflection and student work.

Ambassador Training
to achieve DePaul ambassador designation, teachers must complete level one program and level two program. Additionally, teachers must participate in field testing lessons and be active in two of five program dissemination categories that include mentoring, presentations, development, research or publication.
