Research Method/ology

To study writers' composing processes, I helped develop a research method employing screen-capture software to record movies of writers' on-screen activity. I also use a traditional video cam to record off-screen activity. I use these movies to closely analyze moment-by-moment composing and to support stimulated-recall interviews with writers to prompt very detailed discussions about composing processes.
