Introduction

My field of study is health care. Tlhis entire field has expanded exponentially over the past few decades as stories in the media clearly indicate. I am particularly interested in the components that go into the delivery of health care services and the outcomes that are the result. My research interests are represented in the titles of books that I have authored. Planning for the Nation's Health (1986), When Doctor's Join Unions (1997), Unequal Health (2003) and Our Unsystematic Health Care System (2001) which has now come out in a substantially revised 2nd edition (2005).

I am in the process of launching a new research project- a study of the operations of community level health and human services organizations. I propose to document the workings of such entities in order to show that they appear to do very similar work yJuly 16, 2008ow they present their goals in the form of mission statements, how they are funded and how they go about evaluating their own performance.
