MUSIC LIBRARIANSHIP AND THE INTERNET
Music Library Association
Pre-Conference Continuing Education Workshop
Tuesday, March 16, 1999
Los Angeles, CA

More and more informaton is becoming available on the Internet each day, and its popularity is growing just as fast among librarians as it is among library patrons. However, finding and evaluating the accuracy and reliability of that information is not easy.

Getting what you need from the World Wide web has frequently been compared to taking a drink of water from a fire hydrant. Librarians have always taken a leadership role in organizing reference sources and assisting patrons in their use. But what is the best way to utilize the Internet for music reference service?

Similar questions arise regarding materials selection and music cataloging. What factors should be considered when deciding to mount a local Web site?

These are just a few of the questions our profession is struggling to answer. This full day workshop will seek to provide assistance with the following concerns of music librarians:

   locally mounted Web pages
   directories or meta-sites
   search engines
   evaluation of sites
   listservs and usenet news
