       organized by people rather than software.

     Directories include a relatively small percentage of the web.

     Because of the organization you get less irrelevant results.

     They are often best for broad searches.

     Tend to be popular--Yahoo! is one of the most popular ways to get
       information from the WWW.

     Directories are often the best place to start with a straightforward search.
