Quarterly Teaching Evaluation Procedures

The Department evaluates all courses during the Autumn, Winter and Spring quarters. The evaluations typically start the eighth week of class and are completed before the start of finals week.

By instructors request, the Winter and Spring Interim sessions as well as the Summer sessions may be evaluated. However, these evaluations are not used for purposes of promotion and tenure or for the annual chair evaluations for salary raises.

A student worker types the labels for each evaluation packet.

The label consists of:

Quarter, Academic year, Course name, Course number & section number, Course day and time, Course room number, Course Instructor, Number of students enrolled

The label is placed on an interoffice envelope and the appropriate number of forms is enclosed. The number of forms reflects the number of students enrolled.

Staff, student workers and graduate assistants select three to four classes to administer evals. They must sign up on the sheet that is located in the grad lab (7502 DPC). Once they have selected their classes they must email or call faculty for their date and time preference.

The person who administers the evaluation must count the number of COMPLETED forms and write this number in RED on the outside of the envelope

Loop and Lincoln Park campuses

The staff, student workers and graduate assistants administer the evaluations in these campuses.

O'Hare and Naperville campuses

Instructors should not be present in the room while the evaluation is taken.

A student from the class that is being evaluated will administer the evaluations collect them and place them in the interoffice envelope that will be in the packet. The student should then return this interoffice envelope to the campus Secretary.

The evaluations and summaries will be delivered to the instructors after the final grades have been submitted to the Registrar's Office, usually two weeks after the quarter's end.

Mail

Each faculty, staff and Grad Assistant will be issued a mailbox and key when they begin their employ with the department. It is the individual's preference as to keeping the key in the box or on their person.

Mail distribution is normally handled by a student worker; mail that is to be sent out should be placed in the black "out" tray located at the front desk in the lobby. The University's mailroom has only one pickup and delivery.

Mail - FedEx

When there is an urgent "departmental" need we have FedEx service. There are FedEx supplies in the gray file cabinet behind Ros' desk. There are also FedEx boxes located in our supply room. Please see Ros for these boxes. Our department account # is pre-printed on the shipper slip, please fill in each box accurately so as not to delay your delivery. There is a general FedEx box located in the lobby of the DePaul Center (near the City of Chicago elevators) for placing your packages. Or if you wish you may call FedEx directly for pick up, if you decide to call please leave your pick up at the department front desk.

Office Hours:

At least three weeks before a quarter begins, Ros will email the faculty for their office hours. Please respond as soon as possible so that we have this information available before the quarter begins.

Paychecks/Direct Deposit

Every University employee should have Direct Deposit, this is very convenient for all employees. Please check this website http://www.depaul.edu/%7Efaffairs for the direct deposit form and make sure that you turn this into payroll with a voided check or copy of your voided deposit slip as soon as you complete it. If you choose not to do so your paycheck may be delayed up to a week.

The direct deposit usually takes two paydays to take effect. You will receive a blue check until the direct deposit is in place. Thereafter you will receive in your "Department" mailbox a green check stub.

*IMPORTANT: Please check this website: http://www.depaul.edu/%7Efaffairs/payroll/PayCal99.html for the annual list of scheduled paydays. If you do not receive a paycheck on the appointed day, please call Barbara Sikora (312) 362-6125 and alert her to this situation. There is no way for the department to know if you do not receive your check.
