Course Enrollment Procedures:

During their participation the Joint IIT/DePaul Program, students will take courses at both DePaul University and IIT, sometimes simultaneously. Because students in this program remain full-time DePaul students and pay their tuition at DePaul, students in the joint program must reconcile their IIT and DePaul enrollments on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Because IIT uses a semester-based calendar, and DePaul uses a quarter-based calendar, this reconciliation can be complicated. Matters are further complicated because of DePaul’s package tuition structure: students pay the same tuition for any course load between 12 and 18 quarter hours inclusive. Because of this, it is highly desirable for the students to remain below 18 quarter-hours in any given quarter. Furthermore, for financial aid reasons, it is also often highly desirable for students to remain above 12 quarter-hours per quarter.

Courses at IIT typically carry 2, 3 or 4 semester-hours of credit, which translate to 3, 4.5 or 6 quarter-hours of credit. Students in the Joint Program typically take between 0 and 5 courses per semester at IIT, and between 0 and 4 courses per quarter at DePaul. For each course a student takes at IIT, a companion “shadow” course is created in PeopleSoft and CampusConnect at DePaul for enrollment purposes. (A table with these correspondences is included below.) For each course a student enrolls in during the academic year at IIT, he or she must be enrolled in the corresponding DePaul course during one of the four academic-year quarters at DePaul. To balance the credit hours over the academic year, the following algorithm should be used:

• Students enrolled in Autumn Semester IIT courses should be enrolled in the corresponding DePaul course for either the Autumn Quarter or the December Quarter. December Quarter courses count as Winter Quarter courses for computing credit hours for package tuition, so students whose Fall Semester course load would place them over 18 quarter-hours in the Autumn Quarter should have the excess credit hours placed in the December Quarter.

• Students enrolled in Spring Semester IIT courses should be enrolled in the corresponding DePaul course for either the Winter Quarter or the Spring Quarter, with the course allotted between the two quarters to keep students enrolled in 12–18 quarter-hours per term.

Under current procedures, students cannot enroll in the IIT shadow courses themselves. Each quarter, faculty must make sure the necessary courses are active in CampusConnect for that quarter, and enroll the students in the appropriate courses.
