Graduate Program

Application and Admissions

The deadline for all applications to the graduate program is January 4, 2008, for admission in Fall 2008. However, to ensure that applications receive the fullest attention, all applicants are encouraged to submit their complete applications as early as possible. In particular, international applicants are strongly encouraged to submit complete applications by November 1, 2007. Admissions are for the fall quarter 2008 only.

All applications are processed through the Graduate Admissions Office of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Inquiries concerning the application process should be directed to the Graduate Admissions Office at (773) 325-7315, or toll free 1-800-4DEPAUL (outside Illinois). Or, send an e-mail to
graduatelas@depaul.edu

Applications should be made directly on-line by clicking on the Application On-line link at the top right of this screen.

All applications for the M.A. and Ph.D. programs must include the following:

  1. A completed On-line University Graduate Application Form
  2. Official transcripts of all previous academic work
  3. Graduate Records Examination general aptitude (analytical writing, verbal and quantitative) scores
  4. Two letters of recommendation from teachers familiar with the applicant's work (Recommenders should submit their letters directly to the Graduate Admissions Office; no accompanying form is required)
  5. A personal statement indicating why the applicant desires to pursue graduate work in this program, including areas of proposed research
  6. A writing sample (e.g., a term paper, seminar paper, senior thesis, or M.A. thesis or portion thereof).

To be considered for admission in the following academic year all materials must be received by January 4, 2008.

N.B. If you wish to be considered for a Teaching Fellowship with tuition waivers and stipend, you must apply to the Ph.D. program (even if you do not yet have a M.A.). There is no funding available for the non-continuing Master's program.

All application materials should be sent to:
