September 29 Chicago/Warsaw Flight to Warsaw on KLM
Day 2
Monday
September 30 Warsaw Arrive Warsaw about midday.

Afternoon free to relax from overnight flight or to walk around downtown Warsaw.

Dinner in the old city and meeting with our Warsaw hosts.
Day 3
Tuesday
October 1 Warsaw Sightseeing and meetings with US Embassy officials, businesspeople, commentators on social, cultural and religious factors in Polish society.

City tour of Warsaw.
Day 4
Wednesday
October 2 Warsaw/Lublin Meetings in Warsaw in morning with government officials.

Travel to Lublin by train about midday.

Welcome meeting with our Lublin hosts from the Marie Curie Sklodowska University.
Day 5
Thursday
October 3 Lublin Meetings in Lublin with representatives of various departments of the university to get a deeper sense of Polish culture and society.

Walking tour of old town of Lublin, including Zamek (possibly guided by representatives of the university).
Day 6
Friday
October 4 Lublin Visit Majdanek concentration camp and continue out into the countryside.

Visit Skansen (recreated village) and Palace outside of Lublin.

Folk concert and meal in countryside.

(All activities are likely to be guided by representatives of the university who are experts in the relevant fields).
Day 7
Saturday
October 5 Lublin/Krakow Travel to Krakow early in the morning by train.

Sightseeing in Krakow, including "unofficial" walking tour of old city.
Day 8
Sunday
October 6 Krakow Meetings with business, political, cultural, and/or religious representatives.

Concert and evening meeting with members of Jewish community.
Day 9
Monday
October 7 Krakow Visit concentration camps at Auschwitz/Birkenau and religious shrine at Czestochowa ("Black Madonna")

Overnight train to Budapest including sleeping accommodations.
Day 10
Tuesday
October 8 Budapest Arrive in morning (6:45 AM) in Budapest.

Afternoon free in Budapest.

Evening meeting and dinner with Romania students.
Day 11
Wednesday
October 9 Budapest Day free in Budapest to explore, sip coffee and eat pastries, visit sights, travel to art colony of Szentendre, relax, or whatever!
Day 12
Thursday
October 10 Budapest/Chicago or Romania Continue to Romania or return home to Chicago (or if you've made alternative arrangements, stay in Budapest).
