Abstract:
|
Modern scientific and data
collection procedures make it possible to collect data that more
closely resemble curves and surfaces than finite dimensional
vectors of observations. These developments have motivated
substantial work on techniques to analyze functional data. In
this informal talk, I will introduce the notion of nonparametric
functional regression and describe the current mathematical
results. It can easily be seen that current techniques are
inadequate and leave substantial room for improvement.
