ABOUT US

Our Mission: 
A professional and student organization dedicated to increasing awareness and sharing accounting and finance information among Hispanic students at DePaul University.

 

Our Purpose: 
The organization shall be open to all DePaul University students pursuing a degree in the College of Commerce or the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications & Information Systems, regardless of age or gender. The organization will promote excellence and high ethical standards among members, recognize outstanding scholastic achievements of members, increase economic opportunities for Hispanic/Latinos and assist and cooperate with the rest of the DePaul community. The organization will also subscribe to the common objectives of the Hispanic/Latino Accountant: to develop relations with the business sector that will help students excel in their respective careers, to promote the economic interest and well being of members within the profession, to encourage and promote professional development, camaraderie, and fellowship among its members.

 

 

 

OFFICER DUTIES

 

President *

  • Directs the executive force of the chapter; is responsible to check on all other officers and the performance of their duties.

  • Presiding officer at meetings; must conform to the DePaul M.A.H.A. Constitution, Chapter by-laws and Robert's Rules of Order.

  • Official spokesperson for DePaul M.A.H.A.

  • Liaison between the chapter and faculty advisor.

  • Responsible for acting as a mediator and maintaining a neutral position when resolving problems between members.

  • Signs checks for chapter expenditures with treasurer; approves such expenditures proposed by other officers.

  • Plans board meetings.

 

 

 

Vice President of Operations *

  • Advisor to the President.

  • Performs the duties for the office of the President, due to the President’s absence.

  • Oversees specific committee.

  • Responsible for recruiting process.

  • Responsible for membership involvement.

  • Reserves room for special events.

  • Organizes the chapter’s annual banquet.

  • Organizes the fall corporate dinner.

 

 

Vice President of Professional Development *

  • Advisor to the President.

  • Oversees specific committee.

  • Keeps students informed of opportunities for scholarship & internships.

  • Maintains mentorship program.

  • Organizes the HBSLC Conference trip.

  • Organizes annual Abbott summer office visit (mid June).

  • Organizes office visits.

 

 

   Vice President of Public Relations *

  • Advisor to the President.

  • Oversees specific committee.

  • Organizes chapters’ community service events.

  • Second in-charge of recruiting process.

  • Meets with student leaders from other organizations.

  • Organizes board lunches with other organizations.

  • Organizes the Christmas party.

  • Publishes of quarterly newsletter: LA EXTENSION.

  • Organizes monthly Social Outings.

  • Organizes Día de la Familia.

 

 

Treasurer *

  • Receives and records income.

  • Disburses and records expenditures.

  • Organizes the chapter’s fundraising activities.

  • Makes required payments and reports to DePaul M.A.H.A.

  • Gives monthly oral financial reports at Executive Board meetings.

  • Prepares the budget with help of the Executive Board.

  • Signs for chapter expenditures; approves such expenditures.

  • Responsible for maintaining receipts for all payments and receipts for all collected expenditures.

  • Oversees fundraising committee.

  • Responsible for invoicing membership dues.

 

 

Secretary *

  • Records minutes at every meeting and has them approved at the following meeting; gives copy of all minutes to President, Vice Presidents, faculty advisor.

  • Records attendance at every meeting gives copy to President.

  • Maintains a copy of the by-laws.

  • Keeps past files, membership lists, past copies of DePaul MAHA. Publications.

  • Responsible for all correspondence from chapter including invitations, congratulations, thank you, holiday cards, etc. to all necessary parties.

  • Reads pertinent correspondence at chapter meetings.

  • Responsible to DePaul MAHA and faculty advisor for newly elected officer roster.

  • Updates computerized rolodex.

  • Updates members, alumni, and contacts.

 

*All executive officers have the responsibility to support and assist one another.
