How Do I Declare a Major?

All LA&S students who would like to declare or switch their program plan (major) must complete a Declaration of Program Plan form. A copy of this form can also be obtained from the LA&S college office.

Students are strongly encouraged to declare their program plan by the sophomore year.* Delaying declaration beyond this point may result in increased requirements needed to graduate. The Declaration of Program Plan form must be filled out to officially declare your program plan, and it is solely your responsibility to declare a program plan.

*Students majoring in certain science programs are strongly recommended to declare their program plan as soon as possible, even in the first year. One reason is that a large number of introductory course are required to complete most science degrees. If you are not taking certain classes right away it may take longer than four years to finish. When you declare, you should meet with your faculty advisor who can help you with the scheduling necessary for an on-time graduation.
