Negotiating competence for SNL content courses is an option for students who have completed Foundations of Adult Learning, have completed their first committee meeting and are near graduation. Students may negotiate one competence per course. Typically, this is exercised toward the end of the student's program.
These are the steps that must be taken to negotiate a competence:
The student's mentor must first approve the negotiated competence; A Negotiating Competence form must be completed to start the administrative process.
These are the criteria for competence approval:
A negotiated competence must be relevant to the course;
When negotiating an F competence, the course selected must be relevant to the student's concentration; The instructor must be willing to take on the additional assessment responsibilities.
Please fill out the form. If you down-loaded this document, you can attach it to an email and send it to John Hemmerling.
You can also fax the completed document to John Hemmerling at (630) 548-1963.
Students will receive verbal and/or written (by request) notification once a decision has been made.
Due to the number of faculty and staff involved, competence negotiations can take 2-3 weeks to process.
