Advanced Project
Prerequisite: Completion of First Committee Meeting and the F-1 Competence (Prerequisite: Research Seminar, L-8,9)
F-9: Can design and produce a significant artifact or document that gives evidence of advanced competence.
F-10: Written by student.
Demonstrates ability to apply problem-solving and research skills in one's Individual Focus Area. Understands the broader context of a particular issue or problem. Uses direct investigation, experience, or application. Produces a refined document or artifact of appropriate professional quality as evidence of learning.
The Advanced Project enhances students' knowledge and expertise in their Individual Focus Area. The Project should include an understanding of the dialogue between theory and practice within a particular topic. Case studies, or analyses of specific problems can therefore serve to illustrate general principles and an understanding of the larger conceptual framework provided for practical applications. The Advanced Project should demonstrate the student's ability to investigate a problem in depth and to establish clear links between the problem definition, discussion of conceptual issues, methods of investigations, and analysis of findings.
As in the case of the Externship, you need to refer to your Foundations Manual for a greater explanation of this project. You will need to complete an Advanced Project Worksheet for your own purpose and this should be completed prior to the Advanced Project Contract and Proposal. (Click the links for these documents.)
A Worksheet and Contract is provided. You should complete the worksheet prior to the Proposal and Contract. The Contract must be signed off by your faculty mentor AND your professional advisor PRIOR TO BEGINNING the project.
