Reason, by Propellerhead Software, is a software program that acts as a complete "all-in-one" music production studio.

Using reason, one can compose, edit, rearrange, and produce music while being able to dynamically alter the sounds and instruments that make up a composition. Reason gives an individual the ability to not only become a complete orchestra, but to alter that orchestra in whatever way, shape or form they see fit.

I put together this page, not only because I am both a devoted fan and user of Reason, but because I wanted to inform others of the great musical production possibilities using Reason.

Reason is a software program produced to run on either a PC or a Macintosh and is designed to act in conjunction with a MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) compatible controller in order to produce music. I currently have my computer interfacing with a Roland synthesizer which I then use to produce notes in Reason.

Reason works somewhat like an electronic keyboard that is capable of imitating a multitude of instruments. In order to make Reason work, I open the application, select an instrument within the Reason program and then play the Roland keyboard. Signals from the keyboard are diverted to the Reason program which then transform the signals into notes - similar to current electronic keyboards. Reason simply allows the Roland keyboard to become any instrument I see fit. Reason differs from electronic keyboards, however, in that the Reason software includes the ability to visually compose (and manipulate) a score, and the software includes a "loop" manipulation machine, a drum computer, a sample processor, a subtractor synthesizer and various effects devices.
