TDC 375-701 Lecture Notes 2 I. Questions, Review, Homework A. Classful addressing (A/B/C) discussion Its not important. That is, its obsolete. Its useful to know from a historical and academic perspective, but it is no longer in use. Welcome to the world of CIDR. Technically speaking the Class D and E blocks are not obsolete, but it might be best to just refer to them as the multicast and reserved ranges. B. DDoS - how do you defend against it? Very difficult. It may be practically impossible to defend against the "perfect" DDoS. There are a number of things you can potentially do. One big, low-tech solution is to have friends around the world (particularly ISP/router/security jocks) who can help filter or kick things for you. We will probably talk more about DDoS later in the course. II. Steve Deering's Hourglas presentation at IETF 51 (20 min video) III. IP Addresses A.
