TDC 375-701 Bonus Project Due 2009-11-11 This is an entirely optional project. It is designed to help provide an opportunity to explore some network protocol related topics and activities outside of the classroom and outside of a book. Its not an exhaustive exercise. Its supportive of what you're learning, but its neither necessary to succeed in this course nor adequate experience with which to excel in the real world. It is what it is. Hopefully you'll get something out of it if you choose to work on it. At the least I hope it is "fun", for some definition of network protocol fun. This project may boost your final grade by up to 10%. This will be at the discretion of the instructor based on your contribution to working on the project and through your project report(s). You are allowed to consult other current TDC 375-701 classmates, but you MUST perform all the work yourself and submit your own unique solution sets. No group submissions. The project is a network protocols oriented challenge and it will continue until the last lecture class (the class before the final exam). To complete this project in its entirety you will perform and solve various networking protocol related tasks and puzzles. There are multiple steps in the project and the answer to each successive step will lead you to the next part of the challenge. To complete some of these challenges, you should have access to a host/OS that you have administrative rights for and must be able to generate most any packet type. If you're behind a very restrictive NAT, firewall or locked down host, that will simply be part of your challenge. That said, at all times, thoroughly document your progress. Write up where you get stuck, how you accomplished various tasks, what you learned, what short-cuts you took, how others helped you and how you helped others. This is part of the project report and for each stage you'll need to submit this to earn credit. Instructions are not provided, but I may provide some clues or hints from time to time. Everything you should need to get started can be found here: Have fun. $Id: bonus.txt,v 1.1 2009/10/01 04:30:51 jtk Exp $
