Find and read a SERIOUS article that covers LAN or networking technology from a reputable source. Look for length articles, not one page news items touting a new product development from an estabilished firm. Good sources are: The New York Times Scientific American Economist The Atlantic Wired (feature articles, not one pagers) Don't use places like Slashdot, personal blogs or ZDNet. They tend to be of lower quality or thinly disguised sales pitches. Use a reputable source for serious news and information or risk a lower grade. By noon Chicago time on the day of the following class, submit a one to three paragraph essay briefing me on the content of the article. Pretend you're briefing a technically challenged grandparent, parent, spouse, boss or even some world leader. It is not necessary that you comprehend everything in the article, but if you have trouble understanding it, clearly detail what you didn't understand. Make connetions from the article to material we study in class or ask relevant questions that may be suitable for classtime Q&A. Essays should be about 350 words. You will be graded on the quality of your writing. If English is not your native language or you tend to make grammar and spelling mistakes, seek help before turning it in. Late homework is not accepted, but early submissions are. See the syllabus for submission deadlines for tech reports. $Header: techreport.txt,v 1.2 2008/04/21 14:27:20 jkristof Exp $
