| I received a B.S. in Business from Northern Illinois University, but later saw the light and turned to the study of American history. I received my Ph.D. in History from the University of Chicago in 1988. My fields of special interest are Early America and the Frontier. These are major subjects because they speak to the original shaping of a unique national culture, but my fascination probably has more to do with the archival challenges they present. Compared with more recent eras, the research involves quite a bit of creative detective work. |
