Introduction to Asian Philosophies
Links for Writing
Grading Criteria and Sample Papers -- These are standard for the philosophy department.
Writing Tips -- These are my own. They are also on the syllabus.
DePaul's Writing Center -- Use it! It is a great resource in helping anyone become a better writer.
Links on Chinese Thought
Do not trust anything written for the internet, especially on Asian thought. The following websites are reliable.
Readings in Classical Chinese Philosophy -- This website is meant to supplement our textbook and is sponsored by the publishers. It has good resources and some pictures.
Prof. Van Norden's bibliography -- An excellent resource from one of the editors of our textbook.
Shi Jing (Book of Songs) -- Complete Chinese and English versions, easy navigate.
Another Chinese/English version, better because it will give you the meaning of each Chinese word, but worse because it is very slow (in fact, I can't get it to load now).
Translations of Dao De Jing
Dao De Jing -- Complete Chinese version, with two English translations (plus a German and a French). If you set the cursor over a Chinese character, it will give you the meaning. The website sometimes has some problems.
Dao De Jing -- Sixteen English translations, plus one in German, and even one by Alistair Crowley! Also has the original Chinese. You can set it up with a split screen between any two version.
Translations of Mengzi
Mengzi, translated by James Legge. He was a Christian missionary and it sometimes shows in his translation, but overall I still like it.
Mengzi, translated by Charles Mueller. I don't know him and I haven't looked closely at his translation.
