Why a Chicago Quarter?
DePaul University is in the heart of a great city with rich cultural heritage, lively business communities, vibrant arts centers, diverse neighborhoods, and active community and religious organizations. All of these resources and many more are opportunities for you to enhance your education. At DePaul, we encourage you to make the most of the city around you. As part of the First Year Program, all first-year students register for a Chicago- themed course, either Discover Chicago or Explore Chicago, during the autumn quarter.

Discover Chicago

If you choose Discover Chicago, class begins one week before Autumn Quarter. Classes start with Immersion Week; you will spend the week of September 2nd - September 8th, 2008, interacting with the city and its inhabitants.

If you choose Explore Chicago, you begin with regular Autumn Quarter courses; you will explore various aspects of the city through lectures, discussions, readings, and at least 3 field excursions.

Both options have discussion time dedicated to study skills, time management, and the university's resources. Whether you are from Chicago, the suburbs, another part of Illinois, or another state or country, there is much to learn about why Chicago is a hallmark American city.
