Discover Chicago Immersion Week begins on Monday, August 28, 2006. Immersion Week is a mandatory part of all sections of Discover Chicago (Except for students in the Bridge Program). Discover Chicago courses continue to meet through the fall quarter.

Discover Chicago courses acquaint first-year students at DePaul with the metropolitan community, its neighborhoods, cultures, people, institutions, organizations and issues. Students also learn about university life, resources, and how to be a successful student. Learning is accomplished through a variety of means, but particularly through first hand observation, participation, personal discovery and reflection. The course begins with an immersion week one week prior to the official start of the autumn quarter. Classes continue to meet throughout the autumn quarter. Students select a particular Discover Chicago course which offers the opportunity to investigate that topic using Chicago as a learning site. Students will receive credit for only one Discover Chicago course. Courses offered during the autumn quarter and available to first-year students only.

Common Hour is a co-curricular component folded into Chicago Quarter courses, in which one hour per week students will tackle issues relevant to the personal and intellectual transition to university life.

Students will register for Chicago Quarter courses when they register for their Premiere DePaul Orientation Program, via Campus Connection beginning late-March 2006.

All first-year students are required to take a Discover Chicago course OR an Explore Chicago course during the autumn quarter of their first year.

Check your mail for the Chicago Quarter brochure, which will include your Premiere DePaul registration information in March/April 2006.
