- NEAR-EARTH OBJECTS NASA's Near-Earth Object program was
established in 1998 to help coordinate, and provide a focal point for, the study of comets
and asteroids that can approach the Earth's orbit. Covers the latest news on asteroids,
comets, meteor showers and meteorite. Current emphasis is on the NEAR mission, which

- STARDUST Launched in February 1999, STARDUST will encounter
Comet Wild-2 in 2004 and fly through the comet's coma, capturing comet particles with an
amazing substance called aerogel. The spacecraft will also collect interstellar dust
particles, and in fact, will start this dust collection on February 22. STARDUST
will return its precious cargo to the Earth in 2006. Subscription

- GALILEO Launch in 1989, Galileo has been in Jupiter orbit
since December 1995, and has made numerous flybys of Jupiter's large moons. Galileo has
discovered evidence for a liquid oceans on Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. The next
encounter is scheduled for February 22 with Io, the most volcanically active body in our
