Allan Johnston has had poems appear in Cezanne's Carrot, Poetry Midwest, The Modern Review, and Poetry East since last spring, among other journals. He has also received an honorable mention in the Anabiosis Press Chapbook competition.

Mike Meyer has just been named poetry editor of The Steinbeck Review -- if any of you have poems to submit or students who are creaitive writers please contact him at mjonmeyer@gmail.com. Poems can be about thematics in Steinbeck's works, Steinbeck characters, or stories and novels. They must however have some connection to the author.

Roxanne Pilat will be presenting her paper "Photography, Dissonance, and Concern" at the Sigma Tau Delta Midwestern Regional Conference in Eau-Claire, Wisconsin later this month. Her paper explores how photography can transcend its "middle brow" status, to achieve aesthetic capital, using primarily the work of Bourdieu, but also Barthes, Sontag, Benjamin and others.  In the context of "The Concerned Photographer," a recent exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago, her presentation will also include sample photographs and interpretations.

Shaun Slattery presented "IT Repertoire and Meta-knowledge: A Model for Digital Literacy" at the Georgia Conference on Information Literacy on Friday, October 7.
