Celebración de Nuestra América- Cultural Programs
Celebración De Nuestra América is a year-long series that pays homage to and celebrates our Latino Culture through a variety of events on and off campus. The committee is made up of faculty, staff and students from a wide-range of departments and programs. In the past years Celebración De Nuestra América has invited to campus a diverse group of U.S. - Latino and Latin American intellectuals, writers, poets, political and community leaders, artists, and performers to share with the DePaul University community their talents, knowledge, and insights on the region's most salient problems and issues, and the great and diverse cultures they represent.

Diálogo
The Diálogo staff strives to bring our readers creativity, diversity, and quality, intellectual content. The perspectives shared in past publications have been topics of interest to U.S. Latinos, Latin Americans, and numerous others interested in these issues. The work results in an inclusive forum for scholars, students, workers, artists, activists, community residents, and professionals to present and exchange diverse perspectives about the U.S. Latino and Latin American experience.

The publication is proud to represent a proactive group of thinkers and doers. These are individuals who support initiatives that contribute to the development of our communities. Their work is progressive and meaningful. Their work validates the realities and experiences of our readers' self-knowledge or that generated by their communities.

Our readership is unique. It distinctly serves, though is not limited to ethnic groups within the U.S. Latino and Latin American diaspora. Many of our loyal supporters seek to maintain ties to their homelands and cultures. These ties find expression in the content and quality of Diálogo.

Overall, it is outspoken in nature and strives to heighten awareness. We invite you to explore our communities and cultures in creative and intelligent ways!

Call for Papers

Issue No. 9 on Latinos in the Midwest Submission Deadline: October 1, 2004

Diálogo is seeking scholarly articles, essays, artwork, poetry and book reviews on a variety of topics concerning Latinos in the Midwest. The Midwest is comprised of eight states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. We are interested in works that discuss Latino issues from historic and contemporary perspectives, as well as narratives and analyses of more recent evens that shape Latino realities at home and abroad. Articles on Latino labor, political and social movements, education, remittances, non-for profit organizing, and the formation of the diverse Latino communities in the United States are specially welcomed, but not limited to what we will consider for publication.

Although Diálogo no. 9 will focus on Latinos in the Midwest, we will, like in previous issues, also accept and publish works that focus on other areas of the United States pertinent to Latinos and Latin American Issues.

About Diálogo
Diálogo is a bilingual publication of the Center for Latino Research at DePaul University. It has a national outlook and a Midwest regional focus. It publishes scholarly articles, essays, interviews, and creative work concerning U.S. Latino communities in the U.S., and Latin American affairs. It publishes the work of scholars, community leaders, organizers, artist, and students.

Based in the Midwest, Diálogo's intent is to serve as a bridge between the larger Latino communities in the Eastern, Western, and Southern United States. We strive to highlight the diversity of the Latino communities throughout the country, and the impact of the growing Latino immigration on the United States.

Guidelines for Submitting Work

Diálogo invites and will consider all forms of expression. Articles, essays, interviews, research reports and works of creative fiction must not exceed 20 typed, double spaced pages. The maximum length for book and film reviews is 6 pages. To cite and document sources the MLA or APA style must be used; endnotes are preferred. Please note that there are no minimum page requirements. Work submitted must be in WORD format. We suggest that you submit visuals in the form of a photo or slide. If you are submitting a photo or art essay, we ask that it not exceed 15 images or 15 pages. When submitting visuals/images, we ask that you enclose a short description of them. Any visuals/images must be in JPEG or TIFF format in 400 dpi. You must submit your work in disk or CD and electronic form. Your disk or CD must include: contact person, phone number, e-mail address, a biography of not more than 150 words, and your work or essay.
