I hate to disappoint you, but we didn't exactly stroll down the red carpet.  In fact, we were diverted into a line that went half a block down 50th and then doubled back to the entrance.  I don't know what it was, but we were the only people in this line smiling, let alone giggling.  Maybe they were all ticked off about going in the side door, but they sure didn't look like they realized they were going to the Tony Awards - unless they go every year and it's just a drag for them, like having to go the the boss' daughter's wedding.

So, happy as clams (except for our regret at seeing our tickets torn) we enter the lobby of Radio City Music Hall.  The lobby is huge but completely jammed.  The fact that there is a gigantic camera crane in the middle surrounded by a bunch of overweight union grips (I can say that because I was one) doesn't help the traffic flow.  I work my way over to the concession stand to pick up my program (they don't sell any souvenirs at the Tonys - no T-shirts, no key chains, no nothing) and only let out a small cry of pain when they punch a hole in my ticket stub to keep me from picking up a second copy.

Hey, look.  There's an article in the Tony program about Victory Gardens.  Dennis looks like he's ready to mix it up with somebody on the facing page, but it's a nice article.  Wait a minute, there's my name.  My name's in the Tony program!  Is that cool or what?

Waiting for the ceremonies to start, Doug Post went exploring to see how close he could get to the stage.  When I joined his expedition he took this picture with the stage in the background.  This was a close as I got - but that's closer than I ever expected to get.
Please take your seats, the show is about to begin...
To be continued...
