BATTLE OF THE BANDS
a play by Dean CorrinWhen Steve's brother's marriage hits the rocks he needs a place to stay - and wants Steve to dust off his electric guitar and "get the band back together." A play about matrimony, middle age and the Monkees.
(3M, 3W. One set)
Battle of the Bands, delves into the consequences of trying to balance self-exploration with familial responsibility. Set in a comfortable home in Wichita, Kansas, Janet and Steve's tightly knit marriage bond is tested when Steves younger brother, Michael, moves in after separating from his wife. Steve is ecstatic as his brother's company ignites a resurgence of his youth: guitar playing. While Steve and Michael are enjoying the excitement of their newfound musical relationship, Janet attempts to bring the focus back to the familial conflict at hand. The stakes are raised by the presence Steve and Janet's feisty teen-age daughter, Gina, and the truth-telling, new woman in Michael's life, Claire. At the heart of this family's story is the music they share. Will the power of rock 'n' roll bring the pieces of this family back together? Who will win the Battle of the Bands?
