Professor Agbe-Davies is an historical archae-ologist with a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in anthropology from the College of William and Mary. Prior joining DePaul, she was a staff member at Colonial Williamsburg, an outdoor history museum with a long tradition of archaeology and heritage tourism. Her research interests primarily concern the archaeology of the African diaspora. In her dissertation, she examined manufacturing in colonial Virginia to understand the social dynamics of plantations as their owners shifted from indentured servitude to slavery.
Her current research is centered on the "Bronze-ville" neighborhood of Chicago's south side and developing a public archaeology program that fosters collaboration and partnership between the community and the academy. She is scheduled to direct the archeaological field school for DePaul University in the summer of 2007. |
