About
ASA
Alpha Sigma Alpha is a women's organization that
exists to promote high ideals and standards through the four aims -
Social, Intellectual, Physical, & Spiritual. Our goal is to be
women of "poise and purpose".
The Founding of a
Sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha was founded by five women in 1901
at Longwood College in Farmville, VA. The 5 founders were Calva
Watson Wooton, Virginia Boyd Noell, Louise Cox Carper, Mary
Williamson Hundley, and Juliette Hundly Gilliam. The sorority was
founded the values of Respect, Relationships, Growth, Balance,
Generiosity, Responsibility, and Learning. The five founding women
gave the sorority four aims: Social, Spiritual, Intellectual, and
Physical.
Alpha Sigma Alpha at DePaul The Delta
Eta chapter of DePaul University was founded in 1971. The 24
founders of our chapter were members of the local Alpha Omega
chapter before they decided to become part of a national sorority.
Alpha Omega, the oldest chapter on DePaul's campus, dates back to
more than 73 years.

Our Four
Aims Alpha Sigma Alpha is a women's organization that exists
to promote high ideals and standards for its members by emphasizing
balance among the four aims of social, intellectual, spiritual,
& physical development.
Social: We fulfill
this aim through mixers with fraternities, sororities, and DePaul
organizations. These events give us the opportunity to meet new
people on and off campus. Another very important aspect of this aim
is the work we do through philanthropies. We try to organize at
least 3 philanthropies each quarter. Among the philanthropies we
have taken part in include: Vicentian Service Day, Habitat for
Humanity, and the Polar Plunge.
Intellectual: ASA
has a scholarship chair who is responsible for organizing study
tables, rewards for good grades, and scheduling parties. Study
tables are usually organize around midterms and final exams.
Scheduling parties are an opportunity to find out from sisters which
classes are best to take. As a result of our hard work, we acheived
the highest cumulative grade point average among the chapters of the
Panhellenic Council as of Spring
2004.
Spiritual: ASA fulfills the spiritual aim
through ritual. Fulfilling this aim gives us the time and
opportunity we need to reflect on our goals and ourselves. We hold a
ritual each time we celebrate Parents' Tea, Initiation, Founder's
Day, and Valentine's Day.
Physical
Development: We fulfill our physical aim in many different
ways. We are active in an intramural sports team each quarter. In
fact, we were the 2003 Fall Volleyball Champs! In addition, we
attend various ball games such as Blackhawks games, Cubs games, Sox
games, and Bulls games. We also fulfill this aim by going to the gym
together. We are also proud to note that two of our sisters ran the
2003 LaSalle Bank Marathon, and in October of 2006 some of our
sisters will be running the Chicago Half Marathon. This is an
accomplishment that truly fulfills the physical aim!
Our
Creed To fill my days with satisfying activity, To find
dominant beauty in art, literature, nature and friendships, To
know the peace and serenity of a divine faith, To love life and
joyously live each day to its ultimate good- This is my creed in
Alpha Sigma Alpha.
