Orientation and Training Workshops New Faculty Orientation is provided to all new tenure-track faculty and one-year visiting faculty. It is held prior to the Convocation for the academic year. This is a university event that introduces faculty to their role as faculty members and defines priorities in terms of university expectations for teaching, research and service. The activities complement the separate sessions provided by Colleges/Schools and departments. In addition to providing an overview of university resources, it offers new faculty an opportunity to meet faculty leaders in governance and diversity. A proposal writing workshop is also provided to enable new faculty to utilize grant opportunities in their first or second year. Budget Manager Training is offered twice yearly to all faculty new to internal grants following the grant submission dates in October and March. The actual training workshops are scheduled about two months later to allow for processing the grants in the accounting office. The hands-on workshop covers both Council policy for managing grants, such as eligible expenses, and review of university procedures for paying bills and obtaining travel reimbursements. Paid Leave Workshops are provided to Faculty in support of tenure and promotion. Sessions are offered in May and September to acquaint faculty with leave policy concerning eligibility, salary replacement, and proposal writing formats. It is strongly recommended that faculty planning a leave attend one of the workshops. Tenure & Promotion Orientation is offered in May to all eligible faculty. This session is by invitation only and is focused on preparing the submission packet of tenure or promotion materials. A member of the university tenure and promotion committee is included in the presentation and is available to address questions. |
