The Office of Faculty Development & Research provides funding to faculty who wish to attend conferences, seminars, and forums to participate in professional development programs and leadership activities. Many opportunities are provided by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). The major opportunities are listed below. - AAC&U annual conference on diversity issues in higher education focuses on diversity as an educational asset in the classroom. It also offers programs to improve the participation of underrepresented faculty in institutional leadership.
- ACE Department Chair Program focuses on developing chairs as academic leaders and provides networking forums to share ideas and solutions.
- American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) sponsors programs and conferences to prepare more Hispanics to pursue a career in higher education in faculty and senior-level positions. An annual conference is held in the spring.
- ACE Office of Women in Higher Education sponsors national and regional forums for the advancement of women leaders. The forums focus on women at different career levels and assist them in entering deanships and senior level administrative positions.
- The Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) encourages Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels.
