II. Some of the poems I’ve published recently: |
|||||
|
1.
The Speed of Time Those two
hands busy
running on the
abacus and then
the keyboard have never
outrun the table
clock’s two hands Instead,
they have run deeply
wrinkled |
|||
|
|||||
|
2.
The Chinese Brush The career
he worked his whole life on ―― is to move
the ink onto the
paper Now his hair
has thinned out yet his
footprints are every- w h e r e |
|||
|
|||||

3.
Snow Lotus Most
mundane flowers if not all,
grow on plains Why do you hide in
towering, cloud-shrouding mountains far away
from the human world Most mundane
flowers if not all,
dance by the sides of roads or fields Why do you stand alone
on angular peaks or steep cliffs holding
yourself aloof from the world matters Most
mundane flowers if not all,
bloom in balmy, pastoral country Why do you smile in vast
snowfield proudly
confronting the chilly cold You, plain,
elegant, unyielding to hardships despise the
mundane disturbs You,
treasurable, rare, full of values disdain
extravagance and ostentation You are on
a par with Mountain Tian and Kunlun You are the
neighbor to the vast heaven In fact,
this is the way it should be those who
are socially high dwell high those who
are rare seclude themselves in a rarefied world Only those
who have the undaunted goose will can find
you see you and obtain
you |
|||

4.
What He Clutches… He, from in
mid-air abruptly
thrusts downward his stout arm to clutch
the rock, with curved and twisted fingers What he
clutches is clearly
some kind of a soul He is born
tiny and light like a
grain of sand blown by a
gust of wind into an earthen
crack between rocks There it is
dark and barren but with
one single belief he keeps
growing, growing, and growing… With the
continuously strengthening body he
gradually pushes open the almost-unopenable crack with the
unceasingly extending limbs he gradually
grips the smooth surfaces of the rocks and with
the all-time-tightened muscles he resists
the attacks from the madly jealous wind And finally he rises
from the ground and stands
against the blue sky proudly
erecting on the cliff Looking from
afar what he
clutches is clearly
some kind of a soul |

5.
Flying Dream When still
heavily buried in dark earth they dream
a dream of taking
off Amid the
loudening spring footsteps they poke
up through the soil and open
their bright yellow blooms to look up
into the vast sky Someone
laughs at them, saying they are
immature, thin, and low in status just like
grass at most but have a
will higher than the sky Ignoring
the gossip they go all
out to absorb nutrition Finally pompoms
begin to grow on their heads Over the
green grassland those
pompoms look misty and
dreamlike Yes they are
the very dream cherished in their hearts now crowned
on their heads Here comes
the wind Off they
take flying
across the grasslands, fields, rivers… spreading
their dream to every nook and cranny of the world So, they
can fly and fly and fly next spring |
|||
|
|||||
|
6.
Raindrops Not made to
dance or sing they exert
all their strength to break
through the sky and dive onto
the earth while
humming the rain song Only until
the last minute do they
waltz their way into blossoms striking
loud sound and then
converge into a continuous flow |
|||
|
|||||
|
7.
The Invisible Wind Spring
willows sway by
streams in graceful
postures Summer
clouds roam in the
azure sky in various
poses Autumn
leaves swirl up
from the ground looking as
if a Chinese fairy lady flick her long sleeves Winter
snowflakes dance in
the sky looking as
if a sea of stars drifting down in a dream The
invisible wind becomes
visible in helping others The
invisible wind turns the
four seasons around and
revitalizes all beings The
invisible wind is a
nameless hero and the
King behind the scenes |

Waiting for You on the Bridge I’m waiting
for you on the bridge -- an arched
bridge shaded by magnolias You walk by giving me
an affectionate look Since then,
that look has mesmerized me I’m waiting
for you on the bridge -- an arched
bridge with a pool of lotus flowers underneath You walk by bestowing
on me a charming smile Since then,
that smile has taken my whole heart I’m waiting
for you on the bridge -- an arched
bridge with lily-covered banks You walk by and your
scarf slips off Since then,
I’ve carefully kept it with me I’m waiting
for you on the bridge -- an arched
bridge with a full view of azaleas ahead You walk by and I hand
the scarf over to you This time,
you’ve stopped walking You ask me
why I always come onto this bridge I say I am
waiting for you I ask you
why you always come onto this bridge you say you
are waiting for me This bridge
in our life is named
the Bridge of Destined Marriage on which,
our sincere and loyal footsteps will surely
imprint the equal sign of love |

The Lotus Last night under the
moon in a balmy
breeze you sway
your graceful body while
imagine yourself dancing with your sweet heart When awake
from the dream you find
yourself still alone You stand
there bending
your head over waiting in
anxiety and longing
in silence You are
chaste, noble, and surprisingly beautiful You rise
unsullied from mud you disdain to
stay with flirting duckweed and hate to
accompany playful dragonflies You stand
there bending
your head over waiting in
anxiety and longing
in silence You wait
and wait until all
your lower body hollows out into air pockets You look
and look until all
your lotus eyes are strained Yet still,
your prince charming has not arrived and yet
still, your passion for him remains You stand
there bending
your head over waiting in
anxiety and longing
in silence Even if a
curious person cuts your body into two pieces your
passion remains undetached |

10.
You are that Moon and I am that Qiantang River Not to
sadden me you sneak
away from behind With a face
full of brooding expressions you journey
in the sky unable to
return any night Rippling a
river full of thought streams I stay by
the sea hoping each
night you would return Although we
are a thousand li apart we are
close in heart When night
falls longing for
me you open
the clouds to gaze at
me casting
your lovely facial image into my heart Longing for
you I open my
bosom to receive
you the
crystalline waves stroking your agreeable image Your love is
witnessed by the Earth and the Heaven My loyalty attested by
the sun and the moon When you
can no longer stand the torture of love you move
toward me and my
love-waves surge up When I can
no longer bear the pain of love I surge up
toward you and you
attract me with your gravity With my
love and company you appear
especially bright in the sky With your
love and company I am
especially resplendent in the great river The scene
of the moon over the Qiantang River is the
scene of Qiantang River under the moon |
