Appointments are between 30 minutes and 2 hours in length. You may schedule up to 2 hours of appointments per day and 3 hours of appointments per week.
All appointments end 5-10 minutes early to allow time for tutors to write appointment summaries and transition between appointments.
Regardless of appointment type, tutors provide feedback on up to 4 double-spaced pages per 30 minutes.
Missed Appointment Policies
Appointments are marked as missed if
- They are not cancelled within 10 minutes after the start of a Face-to-Face, Conversation Partner, or Online Realtime appointment
- You have not uploaded a draft by the start of your Written Feedback appointment
Face-to-Face Appointment (30 minutes minimum, 2 hour maximum): Meet with a tutor at the Writing Center to work on any project at any stage in the writing process. If applicable, please either bring or upload materials (e.g., prompt, notes, or draft) for the appointment.
Written Feedback Appointments (1 hour minimum, 2 hour maximum): Upload a draft for a tutor to provide revision-oriented feedback in the form of a summary comment and marginal comments. Tutors provide feedback on up to 8 double-spaced pages per hour. You can expect your draft with feedback to be emailed to you within 1 hour after the appointment ends. Online Realtime Appointments (1 hour minimum, 2 hour maximum): Meet with a tutor online in real time and use a shared virtual workspace to collaborate on a project via instant messaging or webcam. If you have a draft, you may upload it to the workspace. To enable the online workspace, select the link "Yes — Meet Online in Realtime via IM/Webcam" after choosing "Meet Online?"
If you choose an online appointment, log back onto WCOnline approximately 5 to 10 minutes before the start of your appointment. Then, open this appointment and click Start or Join Online Consultation.
Conversation Partner Appointment (30 minutes minimum, 1 hour maximum): Meet with a tutor at the Writing Center to practice conversational English. Conversation Partner appointments give English Language Learners authentic interaction with fluent English speakers in a risk-free environment in order to support and augment their spoken language acquisition.

Your appointment and associated documents may be observed and reviewed for record-keeping, training, and quality-assurance purposes.
