Outreach

WE CONNECT, COLLABORATE, & ADVOCATE

Outreach organizes events and other initiatives that support, promote, and celebrate the work of writers and tutors, within and beyond DePaul University.

WE CELEBRATE WRITERS & WRITING AT DEPAUL

We initiate partnerships within DePaul University to join networks, plan events like the Peer Tutor and Mentor Summit, and raise awareness about the UCWbL.

WE COLLABORATE BEYOND DEPAUL

We collaborate with organizations beyond DePaul through mutually enriching partnerships—programming in their space or ours—and work directly with writers and tutors in diverse communities.

WE CONTRIBUTE TO THE CONVERSATION

We advocate for writers and writing center outreach by contributing to scholarly networks, by participating in conferences, and by publishing our work.

About Outreach

Outreach organizes events and initiatives that support and celebrate writers and tutors both at DePaul and in communities beyond. We also participate in professional conversations by delivering research-based presentations at university, local, regional, and national conferences. Throughout it all, we do our best to practice the UCWbL’s mission and core values, particularly collaboration, diversity, and respect.

Outreach at DePaul

We celebrate and promote awareness and appreciation of peer tutoring, writing, reading, thinking—and the freedom to engage in those pursuits—through such events as Banned Books Week, National Day on Writing, National Poetry Month, International Writing Centers Week, and the DePaul Peer Tutor and Mentor Summit.

Outreach Beyond DePaul

Outreach independently advocates for writers outside of DePaul. We connect with a variety of social service agencies serving children, families, and adults, in addition to supporting students at various Chicago Public Schools. We are eager to connect with and learn from your communities and happy to help if we can.
