Communities in Schools of Chicago Initiative (CISC) |
|
| |
Communities in
Schools of Chicago (CISC) has contracted the SSRC to help guide
a collaborative evaluation of its work in the Chicago public
schools. Since 1994, CISC has been acting as a bridge between
the schools and existing social service agencies, delivering
services to help students overcome learning barriers through
improvements in knowledge, attitude, behavior, physical and
emotional health, school safety, and access to the arts and other
enrichment activities. A theory of change focusing on CISC’s
work with schools and agencies and the impact of that work on
students drives the evaluation process. Addressing these
barriers is expected to result in improved attendance, focus on
academics, and test scores that will prepare students for school
and for life. |

The Preservation Compact
— A Rental Housing Strategy for Cook County |
|
| |
The Preservation
Compact is a 3-year, $3.5 million project created by the Urban
Land Institute and supported by the John D. and Catherine T.
MacArthur Foundation to develop strategies to preserve and
improve the shrinking supply of affordable rental housing units
in Cook County, Illinois. DePaul’s Real Estate Center has
contracted SSRC staff for help with data collection, analysis, and
research methodologies; design and implementation of the
Preservation Compact’s Data Clearinghouse and website to chart
the status of the county’s affordable housing stock; and the
creation and use of GIS maps.
