MAT 152 (or 162 or 172) and MAT 215 (or MAT 141). Prerequisites are strictly enforced by the Math Department. A prerequisite can only be waived by the approval of the instructor and the department chair.

Sets and functions, properties of the real numbers as an ordered field, the completeness axiom, sequences of real numbers, subsequences, the Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem, topology of the real numbers, limits and continuity, and monotone and inverse functions. These topics constitute chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the text.
Midterm and final exams, in class and closed book will count equally in determining a preliminary grade. Homework will be assigned each class day, discussed the next class day, collected the next class day and will increase or decrease the preliminary grade by at most one grade. For example, B+ and satisfactory homework = A-. Make-up exams will not be given. The final exam will be from 11:45-2:00 on Wednesday November 21, 2007.
Classroom lecture and discussion
