Want to help make a difference
for youth in communities like yours?
The Village Project at DePaul University is based on the African
Proverb
“It Takes
a Village to Raise a Child”
>You can help us learn how to help communities like
yours look out for kids’ well being by taking part in our current
research project on Community Connections.
>The study is about the different settings kids grow up in, such
as home, school, and their neighborhood. It is also about how people
in these different settings are connected to each other and ways that
they can work together to help kids.
>The current study focuses on African American families, because
culture is very important to families’ well being.
>We plan to continue this research with other cultural groups in
the future. Families from other cultural groups that are interested
in this research can sign up to be on our mailing list.
You can participate if you are in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.
A parent or guardian is also willing to participate.
Students must have lived with their parent or guardian
for at least the last two years.
Students must have lived in the same neighborhood
for at least the last two years.
We can only interview a limited number of families, so
there is a chance that we may not be able to interview you if you sign
up. Eligible participants will be chosen on a first come first served
basis.
>Each of you will do an interview lasting 1-2 hours, which can take
place at school or at
your home at a time convenient to you.
>In appreciation of your support, you will each receive a $25 gift
certificate.
>Before signing up you will receive all the details about the interview
to help you decide if participating is right for you.
