Our large financial client in Riverwoods, IL is seeking summer help from June-August. Hourly pay-rate is $11.50-$13.50 depending on experience

Candidate must be willing and able to pass an FBI background check and ten panel drug screen.

Job Description
Edit all documentation to the prescribed style. Meet with and mentor curriculum designers, helping them to adhere to the appropriate style as they create training materials.

Requirements

  • BA in (or credits toward) English or Journalism
  • Minimum 2 years’ writing and editing experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including basic structure and style
  • Excellent listening skills, problem-solving abilities ad organization skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • High level of self-motivation, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Clear focus on timelines, including the ability to manage short deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management and personnel
  • Ability to learn software packages quickly

Desired

  • Experience with Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office Suite, and FrameMaker
  • Experience creating training materials
  • Experience with a call center environment
  • Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style

Summer Teaching Opportunities with the Institute of Reading Development

The Institute of Reading Development is seeking candidates for summer 2010 teaching positions. We seek applicants with an undergraduate degree or higher from any discipline. We provide a paid training program and comprehensive on-going support.

Summer teaching positions with the Institute offer the opportunity to:

  • Earn more than $6,000 during the summer.
  • Teachers typically earn between $525 and $700 per week while teaching.
  • Gain over 500 hours of teacher-training and teaching experience with a variety of age groups.
  • Help students of all ages develop their reading skills and ability to become imaginatively absorbed in books.

The Institute is an educational service provider that teaches developmental reading programs in partnership with the continuing education departments of more than 100 colleges and universities across the United States. Our classes for students of all ages improve their reading skills and teach them to experience absorption in literature.

Internship at Sarah’s Circle

Development Intern - Unpaid

General Position Description:

Sarah’s Circle seeks an enthusiastic, creative individual to work on multiple aspects of the agency’s development effort. Specifically, the intern will manage the stewardship efforts of all religious organization donors. This will include compiling current data, research, and contacting churches with specific needs. Additionally, the intern will focus on marketing efforts for a newly opened resale shop. Other duties will include grant writing, potential funder research, assisting with multiple marketing initiatives, event management, donor database management and mailings. The intern will be supervised by the Executive Director and the Development Associate, and will also work with Board members, and Resale Shop managers and other volunteers. Ideally the intern will work 2 days a week, however the schedule is flexible.

Since its inception in 1979, Sarah’s Circle has endeavored to respect, serve, and improve the lives of the most vulnerable women in Chicago, all of which live below the poverty level. We provide daytime support services, educational programming, case management services, and affordable housing to some of the most marginalized women in our community. Sarah’s Circle is the only organization of its kind in Chicagoland, and as such, both our services and clientele continue to grow. In the past year, we saw a 24% increase in the number of women we served, many of whom now come from all parts of Chicago.

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Excellent oral and written skills
- Expertise with Access data base desired but not required
- Self-motivated with ability to complete projects on timely basis
- Understanding of organizations mission, and commitment to the fulfillment of the mission

Opportunities to Teach English at Harold Washington College
(One of the City Colleges of Chicago)

Duties
Harold Washington College’s Department of English, Speech, and Theatre is searching for dynamic part-time faculty to expand its candidate pool for upcoming semesters. HWC is a multicultural campus ideally located in downtown Chicago, and the department of English, Speech, and Theatre is collegial, supportive, and excited to practice the art of teaching. Interested candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process, and the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.

Qualifications
Candidates must have, at minimum, a completed Master's Degree in English. Teaching experience and knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System are strongly preferred.
