Tuition Waiver Application Guidelines

The M.A. programs in English and Writing have a limited number of partial tuition waivers to award at the beginning of each quarter. These waivers grant 25% reductions in tuition charges for courses taken towards your M.A. in English or M.A. in Writing degree. They are awarded to students who can demonstrate academic merit (see specific academic eligibility details below) and financial need and who have completed at least two courses in their programs. Students who have not yet taken two classes will be eligible to apply for waivers in the spring 2005 term or later, after they have reached the two-course minimum. We try to honor as many requests for waivers as we can, but the number of available waivers depends upon our allotment from the Dean's Office plus the number of students applying for them.

These waivers are available only to students who are paying their own tuition fees. Students receiving financial assistance from any grant or scholarship agency or from their employers are ineligible; students financing their educations through student loans are eligible, however.

In order to be eligible for up to two partial waivers for Winter Quarter 2005, you must have finished at least two courses in your program (transfer courses from other institutions or programs do not count toward this minimum) and carry a cumulative grade-point average for all DePaul classes taken toward your degree of 3.3 or higher. You must also be making tangible progress toward your degree (regular and consistent enrollment in classes, timely fulfillment of “core” requirements).

To be considered, you must be currently enrolled in one or more Winter Quarter 2005 classes. Students awarded waivers will receive credits on their accounts, which they can apply toward future courses or receive as a refund. This credit will appear in their financial accounts some time in February. Please keep in mind that this is a time-consuming process for the Graduate Office to complete.

To apply for up to two waivers for the 2005 winter term, please complete the Tuition Waiver Application form found on this Blackboard site. E-mail or mail this form to Mrs. Jan Flood, Assistant Director of graduate programs in English (jflood@depaul.edu). You may also drop it off in her mailbox, located in McGaw 255. Your application must be received no later than Friday, January 28, 2005. You will be notified of the decision by e-mail within two weeks after the deadline.
