Art Institute of Chicago" ...One gallery explores the theme of liturgical drama, featuring works of art that were employed in religious services, including processional crosses, priestly vestments, and illuminated choir books. The other gallery focuses on objects of personal devotion, such as images of especially venerated saints, Books of Hours, and carved ivory plaques. A special subsection of the exhibition examines the artistic exchange between Western Europe, the Byzantine Empire, and the Islamic world in the Middle Ages. In addition to glorifying God, these luxurious objects also reflected the exalted status of the powerful individuals who commissioned them, including the bishop of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris; Doña Leonora Ruiz de Castro, the daughter-in-law of King Ferdinand II of Léon; and Helen of Thuringia, the daughter of Duke Otto of Braunschweig. Such noble patrons engaged the best artists of the day, and this exhibition showcases the talents of Lorenzo Monaco, Pisanello (Antonio Pisano), Giovanni Badile, Don Silvestro dei Gherarducci, the Ghent Privileges Master, the Master of the Worcester Panel, and the workshop of Nicholas Gerhaert von Leiden. I recently met a grad student at Western Michigan University who earns a good full-time salary working for a couple of these companies. A couple of these companies include: editfast.com and editavenue.com. Some charge a sign-up fee, and most ask you to take editing tests before offering any employment.
