and Marketing Communications Specialist
Overview:
The Marketing/Communications Intern provides services in
support of CAEL’s marketing and communication activities.
As a member of the organization’s Marketing Department,
the Marketing/Communications Intern will engage in a variety of
tasks including development of communication materials; content
management; research on new business opportunities; mailing and
database management; contributions to event planning activities,
such as conferences and workshops; updating marketing materials
and mailing lists; and other duties as assigned by the Senior
Graphic Designer/Copywriter and Marketing Communications Specialist.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in development of content for external communications,
including letters, brochures, press releases, and electronic
documents such as PowerPoint presentations and CAEL Web sites.
Responsible for contacting internal staff to gather required
content or document updates. Supports graphic design with formatting
of PowerPoints and various Word documents.
- Provides proofreading, fact-checking, and content-development
support for CAEL’s external publications and marketing
pieces.
- Prepares distribution and mailing lists for dissemination
of CAEL publications and marketing pieces. Tracks external publication
and material requests.
- Researches additional distribution channels for CAEL materials.
- Assists in fulfillment of internal marketing and publications’
requests.
- Assembles marketing packets for presentations and distribution
to prospective clients.
- Provides additional marketing support as needed.
Major Project:
Will work to expand the visibility of CAEL in the marketplace
by:
1st) Researching various print mediums appropriate for placement
of articles/ads pertaining to CAEL’s mission and projects;
2nd) Writing article(s) for placement in one or more publication(s);
and 3rd) Ensuring proper placement of this article(s).
Skills and Qualifications:
- Excellent writing skills required, with ability to express
complex ideas and benefits.
- Strong proofreading ability and editing abilities.
- High level of customer focus required.
- Must be a self-starter, innovative, creative, and results-oriented.
- Prioritization and problem-solving skills essential to being
able to work in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Candidates should also have strong listening skills, be diplomatic
and able to work in team environment while taking direction
from a number of individuals.
- Proficient in computer-based applications such as Microsoft
Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access); any familiarity with
ACT! database program would be helpful.
The ideal candidate will be available as
soon as possible—hours and work schedule are flexible. The
hourly rate for this position is to be determined, depending on
experience; course credit available

Reading Tutor Position

Pay Range: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
Status: Independent Contractor
Hours: Monday - Thursday 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Desired Candidates:
Experienced Educators/Youth Workers OR
3rd/4th year college students majoring in elementary school education
OR 2+ years experience in working with youth in an educational after-school
program setting.
Overview
CS&C is an Illinois State Board of Education approved Supplemental
Educational Services provider operating after-school reading programs
on-site at various Chicago Public School campuses. If you love working
with youth, we want to hear from you!
Position Summary
We are seeking energetic and qualified professionals interested in
tutoring young people who are struggling readers. Tutors will provide
small group instruction in reading, as well as facilitate computer-based
reading support, to Chicago Public School (CPS) students in grades 3rd
- 8th. Tutors must also be very comfortable working with computers -
Macintosh or PC.
Tutors will be responsible for developing individual tutoring plans
(ITP's) for each participant as well as providing ongoing reports on
student progress. When requested, tutors will meet with parents to provide
one-on-one updates to parents on their child's progress.
Qualifications
· Proven effectiveness working with young people in specified
grade range
· Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
· Ability to stay organized and work with minimal supervision
· Demonstrate ability, interest, and dedication to reading/literacy
by providing and encouraging a supportive environment for students while
fostering positive academic conduct
· A responsible, dependable, positive attitude and team player
needed!
· The ability to connect and work effectively with young people!
· Preference given to those applicants with previous "instructional-technology"
experience
· Bilingual (Spanish) a plus!
Requirements
· Based on the requirements from Chicago Public Schools and
the Illinois State Board of Education, all personnel providing services
to students - Tutors, Managers, Aides, etc - must undergo a background
check and provide proof of being free and clear of all communicable
diseases.
· 24 hour notice required in the event you are unable to attend
a scheduled tutoring session/meeting
· Applicant should be bilingual with both written and verbal
proficiency - Spanish a plus!

Description: Responsible for the creation, design,
and implementation of the College’s publication and media
relations program including news releases, advertising, institutional
marketing, and Web site (in conjunction with Webmaster). Will
write news releases and distribute to media sources (including
Web site posting). Responsible for overseeing production of Contact,
a quarterly magazine for alumni, parents, and friends, including
soliciting, collecting, and editing all submissions. Will take
photos at and publicize College events.
The Director of Publications and Media Relations has the final
approval of content, grammar, and style issues for all College
publications and the Web site, and is responsible for monitoring
the SJC Web site for consistency, accuracy, and appropriate content.
Also responsible for co-writing and editing Puma Pipeline, SJC’s
employee newsletter, and the alumni electronic newsletter. Will
proofread College publications, implement special interest programs
when needed, and assist the Institutional Advancement and Marketing
staff with special interest programs and mailers on an as-needed
basis. Responsible for assigning work to the Publications and
Media Relations student intern/s.
Qualifications: Must hold a Bachelor’s
degree in English or a related field; demonstrate creative initiative;
possess exceptional writing, grammar, public speaking and time
management skills. Must have the ability to work independently
and with others, and have a working knowledge of word processing,
desktop publishing, and Web development programs.
