Resources
The first two resources below primarily foster networks among women,
but they welcome men too.
Idealist.org
is for anyone interested in employment in the non-profit
sector, and teaching abroad offers wonderful opportunities that will enrich
your life and career immeasurably.
Some important advice: if you want to join any of these groups (esp.
those
that, like Women in Technology, communicate via a discussion list), first
familiarize yourself with general "netiquette." This is crucial
for all of
your professional endeavors, and here are some comprehensive guidelines:
http://www.albion.com/netiquette/
.
ChicagoWIT (Women in Technology) often posts job openings,
ranging from
part time administrative assistant positions in a variety of fields to
executive positions. Before you send an inquiry or a resume for any job
opening, please make sure that your credentials suit the opening, that
your
letter of inquiry uses the correct format and contains no typos or other
errors, and that any correspondence you send portrays you as a competent
and informed professional. The Purdue University Online Writing Center
provides some excellent resources for writing cover letters, resumes,
and
other professional correspondence: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/.
If you'd
like feedback on drafts, feel free to consult me via e-mail or office
hours, or contact the DePaul Writing Centers: http://condor.depaul.edu/~writing/.

It's always good to "lurk" (just read the
posts) for a while before speaking up or pursuing anything. Remember,
you're representing the DePaul MA programs as well as yourself, so do
your
absolute best!
To join the Chicago Women in Publishing group, follow
this link:
http://www.cwip.org/. Membership costs
money, but it gives access to
valuable professional networks and opportunities if you're interested
in
publishing as a career.

humanities, and education), check out Idealist.org.

Remember, if you see an opportunity you like, take your time and pursue
it
right!
